Caring for Your By Angeline Jewelry & Bespoke Jewellery

Your By Angeline jewelry was Born from Earth. Forged in Fire.

Every ring, pendant, and piece of bespoke jewellery we create is individually hand carved, cast, and finished using traditional lost wax casting techniques. Natural gemstones have formed over millions of years beneath the Earth, making every piece truly one of a kind.

With proper care, your handcrafted jewelry can be worn and treasured for generations.

Daily Jewelry Care

Fine jewelry is meant to be worn and enjoyed. Like anything valuable, however, it benefits from mindful care.

We recommend removing your jewelry before:

  • Heavy lifting or manual labor
  • Gardening
  • Weightlifting
  • Rock climbing
  • Contact sports
  • Swimming in pools or hot tubs
  • Using harsh household cleaners
  • Working with chemicals or solvents

Although solid gold and sterling silver are durable precious metals, natural gemstones can still be damaged by sharp impacts.

Cleaning Your Jewelry

Regular cleaning helps restore the natural beauty and brilliance of both the metal and gemstones.

For most pieces:

  1. Fill a small bowl with warm water.
  2. Add a few drops of mild dish soap.
  3. Soak your jewelry for 5–10 minutes.
  4. Gently clean around the setting using a soft toothbrush with light pressure.
  5. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  6. Pat dry with a soft lint-free cloth.

A soft toothbrush is excellent for reaching behind gemstones and around prongs where lotions, soaps, and everyday oils naturally accumulate.

Avoid using abrasive cleaners, bleach, chlorine, ammonia-based products, toothpaste, baking soda, or polishing compounds unless specifically intended for precious jewelry. These materials can scratch metals, dull finishes, or damage certain gemstones.

Caring for Raw & Natural Gemstones

By Angeline specializes in natural gemstones that celebrate their original character.

Unlike heavily cut commercial gemstones, rough diamonds, raw sapphires, aquamarines, tourmalines, emeralds, and other natural crystals may contain visible inclusions, surface textures, or natural crystal formations.

These are not flaws—they are part of the unique story of each stone.

Natural gemstones should be protected from hard impacts, especially against stone, concrete, ceramic tile, steel, or other jewelry.

Sterling Silver Care

Sterling silver naturally develops a soft patina over time as it reacts with oxygen and sulfur in the air.

Many people appreciate this natural character, while others prefer a brighter finish.

To keep sterling silver looking its best:

  • Store it dry.
  • Wear it regularly (natural skin oils often help reduce tarnish).
  • Clean with mild soap and water as needed.
  • Polish occasionally with a jewelry polishing cloth made for sterling silver.

Avoid storing silver in humid environments such as bathrooms.

Gold Jewelry Care

Solid 14k and 18k gold does not tarnish like silver, but it can accumulate oils, lotions, and everyday residue that reduce its shine.

Regular gentle cleaning with warm water, mild soap, and a soft toothbrush is usually all that is needed.

Over many years of everyday wear, gold rings naturally develop small scratches and a softer finish. This is normal and becomes part of the story of a well-loved piece.

Diamond Care

Natural diamonds are among the hardest materials found in nature, making them an excellent choice for everyday wear.

However, hardness does not mean they are indestructible.

Diamonds can chip if struck at the wrong angle, particularly along natural crystal edges or points. Even rough diamonds should be protected from significant impacts.

Soap residue, lotion, sunscreen, and skin oils can also reduce a diamond's brilliance over time. Regular gentle cleaning helps restore its natural sparkle.

Sapphire Care

Montana sapphires, Yogo sapphires, and other natural sapphires are exceptionally durable gemstones suitable for daily wear.

Clean them periodically with warm water, mild soap, and a soft toothbrush to maintain their beauty.

Avoid exposing sapphires to sudden extreme temperature changes or harsh chemicals.

Emerald Care

Natural emeralds often contain internal characteristics that formed during their creation deep within the Earth.

Because of these natural inclusions, emeralds require a little more care than diamonds or sapphires.

Avoid hard impacts and sudden temperature changes.

Clean emerald jewelry gently using warm water, mild soap, and a soft brush. Ultrasonic cleaners and steam cleaners are generally not recommended for emeralds.

Aquamarine Care

Aquamarine is a durable gemstone that benefits from gentle routine cleaning.

Warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush safely remove everyday buildup while preserving the crystal's natural beauty.

Store aquamarine jewelry separately from harder gemstones to help prevent scratches.

Tourmaline Care

Tourmaline is loved for its extraordinary range of natural colors.

Although durable enough for regular wear, it is somewhat softer than sapphires and diamonds.

Avoid dropping your jewelry or exposing it to heavy impacts.

Gentle cleaning with warm water, mild soap, and a soft toothbrush is recommended.

Safe Jewelry Storage

When you're not wearing your jewelry:

  • Store each piece separately.
  • Use a fabric-lined jewelry box or soft pouch.
  • Keep jewelry dry.
  • Avoid allowing gemstones to rub against one another.

Separate storage helps prevent scratching between different gemstones and precious metals.

Routine Inspection

Even expertly handcrafted jewelry benefits from occasional inspection.

Over years of wear, prongs may gradually loosen and precious metals naturally wear.

We recommend periodically examining your jewelry for:

  • Loose gemstones
  • Bent or worn prongs
  • Excessive wear on the band
  • Changes in stone movement

If something doesn't feel right, discontinue wearing the piece until it can be evaluated.

A Lifetime of Wear

Every By Angeline piece is individually handcrafted in our Oregon studio using traditional techniques that celebrate nature rather than hiding it.

Natural gemstones evolve with the lives of those who wear them. Small marks, gentle patina, and years of memories become part of the story carried within every piece.

Thank you for allowing us to create something that may become part of your family's history for generations to come.

Every stone has a story. Every ring has a soul.
